Little Brother in the Big City

February 20, 2012

I’ve mentioned it a couple times in the past few days, but this weekend my little brother was here to visit!!! I didn’t see too much of him, but I was glad he got to come and enjoy the city! Plus, it was really a “boys weekend” since my older brother invited him up to see a Bulls game.

He got here on Friday afternoon and went exploring downtown. OF COURSE they had to check out The Bean. Very iconic Chicago.

I do not understand my brothers. Do you see what he is wearing?? I mean yes, Friday happened to be a high of about 46, but he’s wearing a SWEATSHIRT. And you know what? That’s what he wore as a jacket almost the whole time! My older brother is the same, he’ll wear a t-shirt and the shell of a winter jacket (not the fleece lining part) and pretend he’s totally fine. I know, however, that they were freezing because anytime we walked somewhere, the two of them were powerwalking way ahead. I’ll take my giant Northface coat, thank you very much.

Mason stayed in my brother and sister-in-law’s second bedroom, and guess what? He had a roomie who apparently woke him up in the mornings!

Now that’s my kind of alarm clock!

I’m sure Molly was very upset last night when she had to sleep in the room all alone… I bet she enjoyed having Mason as her roommate for the weekend. She enjoys attention… shocker.

We went out to dinner both nights he was here, but I didn’t really think to take a picture either time! The first night we went to an Italian restaurant in our neighborhood. My brother and sister-in-law love their pizza, however, I wasn’t a fan since they were very unaccommodating if you couldn’t eat gluten. I ordered a salad and it was your classic bar salad: iceburg lettuce, a few raw veggies and that was that. Needless to say I had a snack when I got home…

On Saturday I joined them to take Molly on a walk down to the beach. It was pretty windy and chilly, but we had a good time and enjoyed watching her dig. I just don’t get it, she will pick a random spot, dig like crazy, and then stick her face in the hole. So random…

After that, Mason and Harrison headed off to the Bulls game, and then my sister-in-law met up with Cate to see The Vow.

Now, I know several other bloggers didn’t think it was all that great, or that it was too cheesy, but we LOVED it! I thought it had a great plot and the actors really played their rolls well. I got very emotionally involved! Although I did find it hilarious that they used every possible opportunity to show Channing Tatum without his shirt on… Yes, I often take out the trash shirtless too.

The movie theater was right next to a Barnes and Noble (there are few real bookstores in the city anymore…) so we popped in so I could grab a book I’ve been wanting to read!

I heard that it’s great if you liked the Hunger Games (which I loved!). The bookstore confirmed this by placing it in an area called: “If you liked the Hunger Games…”. Thanks B&N.

For dinner, we met up with my brothers again, who were a little disappointed about the Bulls’ loss… at a Mexican restaurant called Caesar’s, also in our neighborhood.

We had a good time at dinner, and then I headed home. I got to see him one last time Sunday morning when I went over to my brother and sister-in-law’s apartment to hang out before his flight. I also went over there because my brother printed out a Bed Bath & Beyond coupon for me… Why? So I could get a discount on THIS:

So much excitement to come…

Do you have any siblings? Do you like to hang out with them?

Any great things to make in a magic bullet? I’m so pumped and looking for new recipes!

i have 2 brothers and a sister and am super close with my brothers. They are the SAME as yours in terms of clothing-its absurd. Its like shorts and a tee shirt are a daily outfit regardless of the temps. Absolutely nuts!!!!

I saw the vow with my mom on Valentine’s Day and really really liked it too!!!

Glad you had a good family weekend-you and your brother look so much alike!

    • February 20, 2012 11:21 am

people always say we look alike but I just don’t see it! Haha and I think brothers are just trying to prove they’re tough by not wearing warm clothing… so weird.

Jealous about the magic bullet, I really want a better blender (whyy is the vitamix so expensive??) there are so many things I want to make that my blender just can’t do!

Sounds like you had a great weekend!

    • February 20, 2012 11:22 am

Yea, I am desperate for a viamix but when I asked around about a really good inexpensive blender, I kept hearing the magic bullet! So after mulling it over since September, I decided to finally get it!

Glad you had a good time with your family! I actually won a bullet in a giveaway ages ago but it has US electrics that don’t work with the UK electrics – you’ve reminded me that I need to ebay it!

    • February 20, 2012 11:22 am

Haha I’m glad I reminded you! Can you not get one of those plug converters? I’ve never been to Europe so I’m guessing you’d know better… haha.

  4. February 20, 2012 8:48 am

I’m tempted to buy a magic bullet…you’ll have to share what you think of it!

    • February 20, 2012 11:23 am

I’ll let you know! I was thinking about it since September and finally decided to just go ahead and get it!

I have a brother and a sister and absolutely love hanging out with them! I miss them while I am at school. You can make some great salad dressings in the magic bullet!

I have a brother and a sister and they are my best friends. I see my sister about once a month and my brother every 6months, but we are all constantly sending texts, emails, and photos.

    • February 20, 2012 11:23 am

That’s great that you keep in contact so well! My little brother isn’t so talkative… haha so I don’t hear from him much.

  7. February 20, 2012 11:42 am

i have an older brother and he’s my best friend! 🙂

i would love to visit the bean in chicago, heh. i lived there for two years when i was really little, but i have only a few memories.

i loved the vow too even though a lot of people were saying they didn’t like it. i thought it was really well done!

    • February 20, 2012 11:48 am

That’s great that you’re such good friends with your brother, I’m definitely getting closer to mine as we get older! (he pretended I didn’t exist in High School…)

  8. February 20, 2012 12:46 pm

How fun!! I’d love for my brothers to come! I’m the second oldest of six!!! We’d have quite the time in my 1- bedroom!! lol.

    • February 20, 2012 12:50 pm

Haha that’s a lot of siblings! Luckily my older brother has a 2 bedroom apartment, so my little brother stayed there!

  9. February 20, 2012 12:49 pm

I’m not sure what the difference is between a magic bullet and any other kind of little blender – but I hope you like it! I just have a personal sized blender that I love!

  10. February 20, 2012 1:10 pm

How fun! I love, LOVE siblings time. I have 9 siblings, but you already knew that.

And I SO want to see The Vow!! Glad you liked it! I am a sucker for chic flicks, so I am sure I’ll love it. I love love 😉

  11. February 20, 2012 2:58 pm

gahh i want a magic bullet so badly!! I have an older brother..we are only 2 years apart so we are really close!

    • February 20, 2012 3:54 pm

You should get one!!! It’s only $40 when you get a Bed Bath and Beyond 20% off coupon!

  12. February 20, 2012 3:12 pm

i love hanging out with my siblings! we used to not get along super well when we were younger, but as we’ve all grown up, we’ve become much closer. and i agree with you, i LOVED the vow! i’m glad you liked it too. 🙂

    • February 20, 2012 3:53 pm

That’s how my siblings and I were too, my older brother actually pretended I didn’t exist in High School. We’re only two years apart but no one knew we were siblings! Haha now we get along much better, I attribute his growing up to his wife, Lauren.

Best (and only) infomercial purchase I’ve ever made!

    • February 20, 2012 4:41 pm

haha I got mine from Bed Bath and Beyond! I didn’t even realize it was an infomercial item until I went to their website. I’m always tempted by some of those infomercial items…

  14. February 20, 2012 5:22 pm

I LOVED The Vow too!! I went into it not expecting much because I had heard a lot of negative things about it, but I really thought it was perfect! My roommate has a magic bullet and I’ve used it to make green smoothies..I like that it’s a lot quicker than getting out my big blender.

    • February 20, 2012 6:01 pm

That’s what I’m hoping, my blender takes forever to do anything! I keep having to stop it and move things around with a spoon!

  15. February 20, 2012 7:14 pm

I make hummus in my bullet using the purée blade. Makes it very creamy. Smoothies too! I use my bullet almost every day!

  16. February 20, 2012 9:10 pm

Ummm so weird. My little brother didn’t visit me this weekend, but I did go to see him. And he has the exact same sweatshirt as your brother and wears it all the time 🙂

I tried to convince my boyfriend to see the Vow this weekend but he was not having it!

    • February 21, 2012 10:03 am

Hahaha I love that they have the same sweatshirt! And I asked my sister in law to go see the Vow because I knew she wasn’t going to manage to get my brother (her husband) to go with her!

  17. February 20, 2012 9:29 pm

So fun! I love being close to family to have fun like that together.

Also – I read the Maze Runner. It’s definitely got a similar feel to hunger games but is nowhere near as good.

    • February 21, 2012 10:04 am

Haha I figured it wouldn’t be as good as the Hunger Games since it didn’t have the same hype! But I’m hoping I’ll like it!

  18. February 21, 2012 1:01 am

You’re going to LOVE your Magic Bullet! I use it for everything–to make soup, whip cottage cheese, blend smoothies, chop veggies etc. etc.

Glad you had a fun weekend with your brothers! And I’ve heard mixed things about The Vow too, but I already know I’m going to love it. Hello shirtless Channing Tatum! Kidding. Sort of. 😉

    • February 21, 2012 10:04 am

I’m glad to hear you like the magic bullet, I’m so excited to use it! And I’m pretty sure no one was upset about all the Canning Tatum shirtless scenes…
