September Goals

Hey everyone! I hope you’re all having a great weekend!!!

I know many of you were curious how my run went yesterday…


IT WAS AWESOME!!!! (this was me, post shower and still on a runner’s high! PS I love runners high, my cousin and I went to Trader Joe’s after the run to grab a few things and I couldn’t not stop laughing. It was fantastic.)

Anyway, I was worried about the weather because it was 80% humidity with rain. Rain didn’t bother me, but humidity didn’t sound good. Luckily the rain brought clouds and although it was humid it was a million times better than direct sunlight! It took my group 3 hours to complete the 18 miles, and although it wasn’t easy I really did have a blast. It reminded me why I love to run so much, I felt so accomplished! I even sprinted out the last half mile, which included up and over a big hill! I cannot say enough great things about that run. I needed it, now I feel so much better about finishing 26.2 miles!

I also loved my group – several of the women around me congratulated me on my PDR! It’s so nice to run with a group because it feels like their momentum carries you on. You just keep following the person in front of you! Haha I should just stalk someone during the marathon… totally not creepy.

Well, it’s September now (although NOT FALL! haha still technically summer!!!) and that means it’s time for a re-cap of my august goals, along with some new goals for September! I actually can’t believe I have done a full year of goals posts! Here’s my very first one, back in September of 2011! Haha back before I switched my blog over… gotta love old posts.

Here’s a recap of my August Goals:

1) Keep up training while traveling. Definitely met this goal! Despite all my travels I hit every single training run! Haha although it all certainly caught up with me and I had to skip a run this past week, but no biggie!

2) Have fun at Healthy Living Summit! Haha most definitely achieved this goal! I really had an amazing time at HLS! I was sooooo thankful for my roommates, we all ended up getting along so well. I also got to meet a ton of other amazing women! Here’s a recap of my final thoughts on HLS.


3) Keep in touch with friends. I did…. not so awesome with this. I think my problem is that I just didn’t really focus on this goal, I forgot about it! I did manage to catch up with a friend in Kansas City and another in Colorado Springs, and I have been talking to a friend in Charleston more often, but I didn’t call all the people I really needed to! So… fail.

4) Start job/career searching. Ehhhhhhh. This makes me cringe inside. I didn’t really start searching but I did do some brainstorming (haha actually a lot of brainstorming with the woman I ran with on my 18 miler on Saturday!) and I’ve looked at the school site a bit. But I really need to focus on this one in the future.


And now, time for…

September Goals!!!

Unfortunately, my September goals won’t be tooooo exciting, because I’m already overwhelmed with everything on my plate. For the most part my goals are too keep on track with everything I have going on:

1) Do all my reading a day before class! This isn’t always possible, since sometimes I’ll leave my book at school so I don’t have to carry it home, meaning I’ll get there early to finish the reading. But for the most part, I am way less stressed if I get my reading done over the weekend or at least a day in advance.


2) Do a devotion every morning when I get up! I know I don’t talk much religion on here, but at the beginning of the summer I bought a devotions book and I really love reading it, I just tend to do several at once rather than one every day. I feel much calmer and more centered when I read them, so I’m going to try and do one every morning and make it a priority! Calm Katie = Less stressed Katie!

3) Be prepared for each GOTR lesson and HAVE FUN! I’m starting up GOTR coaching in ONE WEEK and I’m so excited! I want to be sure that I’m prepared each day,so I need to read the lessons the night before and go over them so I know what I’m doing when I get in front of those girls! I also want to focus on having fun with them, because that’s why we’re ALL out there!

4) GET PUMPED FOR THE MARATHON! Haha basically I just want to stay excited for this marathon, try not to get burnt out and DEFINITELY try not to get injured!


Aaaaaand that’s about it! Pretty simple goals, but very important to my life this month!

    Congrats again on your run Katie! That’s really fun that you did it with a group – that would definitely make the time fly by so much faster! I don’t run with other people very often, but I remember when we did the HLS run I was shocked when the 5k was done – I thought we still had another mile to go!

    My goals for this month are to start meal planning, to plan a few fun outings with friends (beach trip and fall fairs!), and to switch my blog to its own domain!

    Can’t wait for our date today!!!

    I HAVE to finish my reading in advance for class because we have to participate in discussions online over the weekends on blackboard about the reading we did!

    CONGRATS on the amazing run! I absolutely love your enthusiasm. Long runs can be SO intimidating, but your attitude makes me want to go out and just run for a week straight! 🙂 Have a wonderful weekend!

    Can’t wait to hear about GOTR! I def am interested in coaching a team… I love the lessons that CaitlinHTP posts when she used to teach (I use some of them in my classroom or with my soccer team I coach!). I know you’ll rock your last year AND your marathon!!

    My goals are to get back into the school groove (I start my course with IIN next Monday!), learn how to pace my runs, and to sleep more!
    Ps. Runners high = BEST feeling in the world!! It’s that feeling that convinced me that I needed to consciously abandon my ED for life — I can’t have a strong runner’s high without being strong, and I can’t be anywhere close to strong enough with the ED. That feeling changed my life completely.

    I was so happy to see your long run went well through twitter. you have been really paying attention to your body which I really respect and see as an inspiration for many, keep up the amazing work. I hope you get to find some ease in your school schedule as well!

    I just discovered your blog feel like we have a lot in common. I’m also currently in graduate school (MSW), and I also recently lost the15 pounds I gained during college/ the two years I took off to work. I did it by counting calories, and right now I’m struggling with how to maintain without counting. I still count now and have maintained for about a month, but I’d like to stop counting eventually! Any advice? Also any advice on how you juggle your busy school schedule with eating healthy and staying active?

    I also just recently signed up for my first 10K, and I was also a person who used to say “I’m just not built for running!” Hopefully I have as much success with running as you do!

      Hey Bethanny, thanks for reading and congrats on the 10K registration, signing up can be the scariest part! Busy schedule-wise, the key is to make a bunch of food on Sunday and plan out your lunches so that you bring something healthy rather than buying unhealthy food. If I have to buy, I usually find somewhere that puts their nutrition information online. Stopping calorie counting was HARD and I did not do it well. My problem was that I wasn’t eating enough for my activity level in the first place, so when I finally stopped counting I started binge eating at night. Just be sure that you really are eating enough now (which is MORE than you were eating when you were losing), have a big breakfast with healthy fats and proteins, and basically just STOP. You’ll keep counting in your head for a while, it’s hard to stop that, but it takes time. You know what a healthy, portioned meal looks like now so you just have to trust that. I haven’t counted in at least 6 months and it is so freeing! Please feel free to e-mail me with any more questions, I might be able to give a longer response!

    16 miles is no small feat. Great job! Nothing like some runner’s high to remind yourself how awesome running feels.

    I love the goal about starting the day with a devotional. I love to have some quite time with God in the morning and make a list of my blessings. It really starts your day off right.

    Congrats on your 18 miler!! I saw a couple of your fellow CARA-ites yesterday and definitely sent some positive thoughts their way. You’re all getting so close to 26.2!! Very exciting stuff 🙂

    My only major goal at this point is to still be alive this time next week haha. Hopefully the weather next Sunday will be 50 and cloudy, which will make accomplishing my goal that much easier 😉

      Haha I promise you will still be alive!!! Just remember to enjoy the race and the energy of everyone around you, and that half marathon will be done before you know it! Just imagine how proud you’ll feel!!!

    Congrats on your eighteen miler! My major goals for this month is to stop procrastinating and do papers at least 2-3 days before they are due. Also continuing to stick to my training plan.

    Katie, way to go on your 18-mile run! Your post run picture is so awesome!!!! When I trained for my first half marathon back in February I ran my first 8-mile run (1st time ever past 5 miles) and took a picture very similar to yours to document the high I got from it. Being able to physically and mentally complete those intense runs that once intimidated you, is such an amazing feat and the feeling that comes from it is like no other! Following your training makes me want to get back into marathon training! I’ll be rooting for you throughout your training and your final run! Best of luck!

    Girl, I cringe at thinking about the future/careers/jobs just like you! But, I really need to start looking at internships and masters programs 😦 EEEEK! SO SCARY.

    Congrats on the PDR!!

    I completely understand the whole career-hunt stress you’re experiencing. I was so lost after graduating last May (still am 🙂 ) that I just took 3 months off before job-hunting and entering the real world. It all worked out fine! Keep your eyes on the goal and you will get to where you want and need to be 🙂

    You reminded me that I need to look into volunteering with GOTR here!

    And congrats on that PDR!!! Your race is definitely getting close! 18 miles is actually the longest I did before the marathon. Mizzou tailgates got in the way 🙂
