Thursday Thoughts

June 21, 2012

Hey everyone! Happy Thursday! Yesterday was pretty awesome, I got the opportunity to go to an event and hear Colin Powell speak about leadership. I normally get pretty bored at these kinds of things (and he sure talked for a while) but honestly, I was captivated. He is a very intelligent man who really has a way with people and connecting to everyone. It was amazing to hear him speak and many of the tips that he had, and stories that he told from his own life!

His book is called It Worked For Me: In Life and Leadership, and I think I might see if it’s in the library!

But enough about Wednesday, today is Thursday, which means it’s time for some more Thursday Thoughts! Here we go:

1. Still looking for roommates for the Healthy Living Summit! I have one girl ready to go, so we’re hoping to find two more! Great way to save money AND make some awesome new friends. Send me an e-mail if you’re going to HLS and interested!

2. I’m seriously considering attempting to make some sort of sushi roll. It can’t be that hard… right? Knocking on wood right now…

3. How cute is this?!?!? Not something I’d do in the apartment I’m renting since I’ll be out of here in a year, but definitely something to keep in mind for the future. A great way to add a color pop to your ceiling!

4. I saw this and it totally made me laugh. I tend to sweat… a lot. And so now I know I’m not sweating, I’m just exuding liquid awesome!

5. How cute is this bracelet?!? I’m more of a gold person than silver, and I think this is so simple but pretty! Definitely my style.

6. Um, yes please?!? I’ve been craving quesadillas, unfortunately when I went to Whole Foods this weekend they were all out of the brown rice tortillas I get! Ahhhh upsetting.

7. I cannot find Zico’s chocolate coconut water. I have been wanting to try it FOREVER, but whenever I’m in a store that sells it they never seem to have the chocolate flavor! I’m pretty sure they have it at Trader Joes, I completely forgot to look on Sunday when I went (because it was crazy crowded…) so I’ll have to keep trying!

8. I KICKED BUTT on my run yesterday! It was 4 miles and supposed to be run at a 9:00 min/mile pace. I’d been running outside around 9:30 at best, so I was pretty nervous and doubted myself that I would be able to keep that pace without a treadmill. But guess what?! I’m sure you can guess… I killed that pace! I ran 4 miles with an average pace of 8:46 min.mile! I’m not going to say that last mile was pretty… but I was so proud of myself for pushing it! I miss that feeling!

9. Don’t forget to donate to my fundraising for Girls on the Run! You can read more about it here, or go to my donation website here. Even $5 would make a world of difference!

What food cravings have you been having lately?

Who is someone you were impressed with when you heard them speak?

I saw Colin Powell promoting his book on the Daily Show recently, and I agree, he is a good speaker. I thought he had some really interesting things to say. I bet it was even cooler to see him in person!*

Love that ceiling fan idea and the bracelet! I’ve also been craving a quesadilla (especially now), and congrats on a great run! Such a great feeling when you surprise yourself!

I’m SO excited you’re going to HLS! I’ve already booked my room, but I’m definitely looking forward to giving you a hug!

Love the fan idea, and those quesadillas look dangerously delicious! How cool that you were able to hear Colin Powell speak as well. Regardless of political affiliation, I think everyone can agree that he’s quite wise. You’ve piqued my interest in his book. 🙂

My frozen yogurt cravings have been out of control. Beginning today, no froyo for a week!

I’m so glad you’ll be there! And yes, it was awesome to hear him speak, especially since it wasn’t about politics but being a leader in any part of your life!

I’m late to this party, but congrats on that run! You are a speed demon 🙂 And I so wish I could be roomies for HLS! I totally would if I could go.

P.S. Thought of you while I was running this weekend in KC and I went past the Roasterie! I still need to try it – it looks great!

    • June 26, 2012 10:58 am

Ahh you have to try it! I live that it’s local, I’m pretty sure that’s their only actual coffee shop!

Great job on your run!! You go girl! My #1 craving recently has been coffee light fraps from Starbucks! 😀 they’re not ridiculously sweet but sweet enough. i had two of them yesterday! at this rate, i better learn how to make them myself or i will be a even poorer college student than i am now, haha! :-O

    • June 28, 2012 5:24 pm

Haha I had an awful Starbucks habit in college, luckily I also had a job to help support it!
