June Goals

June 1, 2012

First off, I wanted to say thank you for everyone’s encouragement at my new internship! I know it sounds like I’m complaining a lot about the hours, but I guess it will just take some getting used to! Other than that, I’m really enjoying it so far! Everyone who works there is so helpful and I’ve already gotten great advice. I know I will learn a lot since many of the lawyers have had years and years of experience, and in tons of different areas of environmental law!

So now, on to my post:

IT’S JUNE!!!! Is that crazy or what?! I can’t believe it! Only 10 more days until my big brother’s first wedding anniversary! See the picture of me on the sidebar in the green dress? That’s from his wedding!

Today is also a very important milestone as well:

Today is LaTarian Milton’s birthday. Who is LaTarian? My friend’s cat. He is fantastic. He has three legs and she rescued him two years ago. He has white mittens on his paws and he thinks he is a dog. I’m not a cat person, but I like him.

Now that we’ve all ooo’ed and awww’ed over LT, it’s time to look at my goals from May, and see my new goals for June! If you are new to the blog, every month I come up with some new goals, just things to think about and try to do for the month. I also re-cap the last month’s goals and see how I did!

May Goal Re-Cap:

1. Go to the Kansas City Zoo! FAIL. I did not end up going to the Kansas City zoo while I was home. However, I did go to the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo in Colorado Springs! So that kind of counts, right?

2. Keep up my running mileage. Kinda sorta. I kept up running, but I didn’t keep my running mileage to where it should be for marathon training… The plans all say 15-20 miles per week, and I’ve been doing more like 10-14. However, I think that’s best for me. I needed a break from running, and now I’m so excited to start training and this week I’ve just been craving a good run! Also, I’ve  been keeping my runs longer (4-6 miles) so I feel good about where I am to start MARATHON TRAINING!!!! (Again, if you are new to the blog, I’m signed up to run the Chicago Marathon!).

3. Buy new running shoes! SCORE. When I got home to Kansas City I went with my mom and got some new running shoes! Thanks mom! They are Asics GT2160s and I really love these shoes so far, they have great support, it feels so comfortable!

4. Work on having “me time.” This was pretty easy for me since school got out! At first I wasn’t too great about it, but I got into the groove. I spent a lot of “me time” reading, running without headphones, or going on long walks. I also am happy to have my commute back (I know, SHOCKING) because that’s a solid 40-60 minutes of just me time! Oh and the other 40 people crammed on the bus…

Now that we’ve seen how I did with last month’s goals, it’s time to set some new goals for June!

June Goals:

1. Bring lunch 4 days a week to work. It’s been 4 days and I’ve only brought lunch once… Granted, I have zero groceries and not much to work with for bringing lunch, but I cannot afford this! Okay, one day my supervisor bought me lunch, but two other days of $8 salads?! I need to work on my meal planning!

2. GO TO SPINNING. This has been on my goals list for WAY too long! I really need to try out a spinning class! There’s even one at my gym on Tuesdays and Thursdays that’s just barely early enough for me to go to and still make it to work! I’ve got to make this happen!

3. Be better about calling people. Brace yourselves friends and family. Starting today I am going to try and be a better phone person! There are so many people I’ve been playing phone tag with over the past month or so (I’m talking to you, Amy Lee!) and I need to get better about calling people! One of my best friends from college got engaged this month and I HAVEN’T CALLED HER! How sad is that?!

4. Don’t let strength training fall to the wayside. My marathon training begins next week, AHHHH!!!! I’m SO EXCITED! I’ve been anticipating this for so long that I just want to get started!!! With that being said, I want to make sure I keep up with strength training. I love it, it makes me feel strong and good about myself, AND it’s so helpful for running and to keep me from getting injured!

What are some things you’re looking forward to doing in June?

Are you a cat person, or a dog person?

I think you all know my answer:

Those are great goals! I’m a cat person until I have to clean the litter box

I love your goals! Especially the one about spinning class (I was scared to try, but after my first class a few years ago, I’m pretty much addicted! So much so that I bought a road bike!).

I’m doing a 10 week 10 goals challenge right now that’s pretty fun! I like short term goals, I stay on track better that way!

I’m such a bad phone person too, like the worst! I’m looking forward to moving into a house in June! I’m definitely a dog person. I wouldn’t say I hate cats, but I just don’t like them much! Dogs are far superior in my opinion!

I’m a cat and dog person. I have a kitty now, but want a dog when I have my own place.

I just signed up to run my firts race (4 miler) so I’m looking forward to training for it in June.

Good goals. I am definitely a dog person-we have two large mountain dogs. Cats creep me out. Good luck with marathon training.

    • June 1, 2012 7:34 pm

haha I like that they creep you out. I think it depends on the cat, some are creepy and very few are normal.. ha

  9. June 1, 2012 8:49 am

First of all, DEFINITELY a dog person. I’m sort of coming around to the idea that some cats can be kind of cute, but overall I’m not a big fan.

Love your goals! I am hopefully going to go to a few spin classes once I have my gym membership at school in the fall. Yay for the marathon training beginning!! It’s always good to go into it with a great attitude like yours!

    • June 1, 2012 7:35 pm

I can’t imagine not having a good attitude though, how daunting would it be to sign up for a race and NOT want to train?!

  10. June 1, 2012 9:12 am

oh i’m most definitely a dog person. i could even say that i really don’t like cats. they just kind of freak me out for whatever reason. haha.
i forgot you were doing the chicago marathon! when is it again? i’m excited for you!!

I am definitely a dog person!

It’s so great that you make these goals for yourself each month!! Hope your marathon training goes well…I agree with you about strength training, always makes me feel good 🙂

  12. June 1, 2012 9:27 am

Love the goals! I like the one about keeping up with strength training during marathon training! I definitely let that one go a bit during my half training, but now that I’m doing more of it, I can’t imagine not doing it again while training for a race. You’re right – it makes you feel so much stronger!

    • June 1, 2012 7:36 pm

I know, I can’t imagine NOT strength training, and I used to be so afraid of the weights area in college!

  13. June 1, 2012 9:51 am

I think your goal of calling people is a great one, I will definitely be taking a leaf from your book on that one!

  14. June 1, 2012 2:23 pm

I love all your goals!! And YAY for keeping with strength training during marathon training. it is SOOOO important! 🙂

  15. June 1, 2012 6:22 pm

Such a great reminder to set and “re-set” goals periodically. Thanks, I’m going to do it this month for sure!

  16. June 1, 2012 7:08 pm

I agree, going out for lunch gets SO expensive! I always packed my lunch the night before so I wouldn’t have to do it in the morning!

  17. June 1, 2012 10:54 pm

I am deffs a dog person! And as for June goals… Since it is now Winter in Australia, my goal is to fight the cold and maintain my running training outdoors.

  18. June 2, 2012 11:34 pm

I’m so happy to know that I’m not the only one that is not a good ‘phone person’. I really should pick it up more often and call up old friends. I seem to only call my parents or my sister and let everyone else go to the wayside. Bad me!
