Thursday Thoughts

May 31, 2012

Hey everyone! So I’m two days down and two days left with my internship this week! I’m hoping that I get used to this schedule… I’m already feeling horribly overwhelmed at the fact that my weeks will be completely filled with work, and waking up at 5am to get in a workout… For those of you who work full time office jobs, how do you do this?!? I really really hope I get used to it, or I’ll be finding something else to do with my life… lol we’ll see! It’s only been two days!

So Thursday Thoughts this week is a little all over the place. Oh wait, it’s always all over the place. Haha although many less items from Pinterest this week since I’ve had zero time to be on it!

1. SO TRUE. This is how I feel with some of my best friends. No matter how long we’re separated it’s like we were never apart!

2. I have this giant map of the US on my wall at work. Perhaps to replace the fact that there’s no window? Anyway, I LOVE maps. I’m a map freak. Every time I get any assignment, I figure out where the town is on the map. Or I just stare at the map. I love it.

3. I am officially craving pizza. Does this not look delicious?! It’s a recipe for healthier pizza!

4. I’ve been there two days and have already started stashing candies in my drawer, both from different countries. The box are rice candies from Japan. Growing up, my best friend’s mom’s side of the family was from Japan so I was exposed to a lot of Japanese things, including these candies. SO GOOD! And The others are French bon bons! (candy). My favorite French teacher, who I had for several years, used to give these to me for my birthday!

5. Strawberry Froyo Peanut Butter Cups? Um, yes please!

6. I am currently reading Jodi Picoult’s book, Sing You Home, on my commute to and from work. I’ve read almost every one of her books, but it’s been a while. I forgot how much I liked her work!

7. What’s your favorite lunch to pack?! I need ideas!!!

8. I forgot to show you all these photos from my last morning in Colorado Springs! I went to visit one of the more famous rock structures: The Balancing Rock!

Here’s an old picture (I just love the cars, you can barely see the rock…)

And here’s mine!

Anyone else a fan of maps and geography, or is that just me?

Every read every book by a single author?

Omg, I love maps and geography! That actually was my major and I wanted to get into urban geography but once I graduated market turned into GIS. I hate GIS!

Anywho, my single author to go to is Sherrylin Kenyon (hope I spelled it right). She writes “Dark Hunter” romance novels that are about vampires, but it’s very deep and dark mystery type thing…Yea lol 🙂

My alarm goes off between 5 and 5:15 in the morning to fit in a workout before work. It’s tough. I try to plan one a week for the afternoon though because some mornings I just NEED to get more sleep. If you have one planned for the afternoon, then you don’t feel bad for sleeping in 🙂

Also, Jodi Picoult books are so addicting! I loved Plain Truth.

  3. May 31, 2012 7:49 am

Once I started working full time, I started working out early in the morning. It was hard to adjust to, but once you do, you will feel lost when you don’t get up early to wake up. It’s so peaceful to work out early too!

    • May 31, 2012 8:48 am

Lol I’m up at 5 to workout! That’s not the problem, it’s the wanting to take a nap by 2pm!

  4. May 31, 2012 7:49 am

I felt the same way when I started my full time office job this summer (and still kind of do!). You will sort of get used to it haha. And I’ve read every book of Emily GIffin’s – I seem to love her books no matter what the subject is, though my favorites were the first ones (Something Borrowed etc.)

  5. May 31, 2012 8:02 am

Adjusting to a 9-5 work schedule is tough, but you’ll figure it out. I tend to do workouts/runs after work, especially in the summer. It’s cooler and still light out. It’s a balancing act at first, but you’ll soon do it without thinking about it.

  6. May 31, 2012 8:24 am

I love maps and geography-that’s why I study them for a living! I also collect antique maps. I love your old picture of balancing rock. If I hadn’t of noticed the car, I would have thought that it was instagram.

  7. May 31, 2012 8:47 am

i love that first quote about friendship… it’s so true! i want to email that to my best friend in california. and you’ll get down the schedule. it’s tough at first, but after a few weeks i’m sure you’ll get the hang of it. maybe try doing your workouts in the evening sometimes?

  8. May 31, 2012 8:48 am

I love maps too!! Yes, 9-5 can be tough, but it does help you sift through real priorities and get rid of the ‘junk’…..

    Have a good day!

  9. May 31, 2012 9:00 am

    that pizza looks delicious!!

my favorite packed lunch is a piece of fruit, a big chopped salad with veggies, turkey or cheese, and sesame ginger dressing (or a sandwich – favorite combos are cheese + hummus, almond butter + raspberry preserves, turkey + cheese + veggies). and i usually pack a few snacks as well- a cup of greek yogurt, a luna bar, some pop chips, or trail mix! i feel like a pro at packing lunch since i’ve packed my own for about 4 years now! next year in college it’s going to be realllyyyyy weird not to make any of my own food.. makes me a little nervous, actually!

  10. May 31, 2012 9:46 am

Ah, yes, adjusting to the 9-5 schedule 🙂 I’ve never been able to get up and workout before work so I’m definitely an after-work exerciser. I just moved to be closer to my office and that’s making a huge difference. I’ve noticed it’s not necessarily the hours that are killer it’s the commute!

As for lunches, one of my current favorites is mashed up avocado and hardboiled egg in a wrap with tomatoes and lettuce. Yum! Throw a little mustard in there and some salt and pepper and you’re good to go. Add a piece of fruit on the side and bring some hummus and veggies for an afternoon snack and you’ll power through that 2PM down time.

I love maps too! (i think it has something to do with my love for cities) I have a map in my bedroom and pictures of cities everywhere! I always wanted to collect license plates from every state how cool would that be? (I think its illegal though…boo)

    • May 31, 2012 4:23 pm

Is it really illegal to collect license plates?! So rude

      • May 31, 2012 6:09 pm

I tried to save mine from my old car and they wouldn’t let me they said I had to turn it in or I would get in trouble if I ever got pulled over… me=not happy!

  12. May 31, 2012 10:15 am

Oh, I feel for you, because I know how hard it is to get into that routine. I just wanted to cry. I worked out after work, because I felt like I got no sleep if I did it in the morning. It meant that I ate dinner pretty late, but I got used to it. I start my summer job on Monday, so I’ll have to get back into a routine too!

I’m so glad you enjoy my blog! I love hearing from new readers! And I love traveling too, although I haven’t been too far out of the US! But one of my goals is to travel to all 50 states!

  14. May 31, 2012 10:54 am

I am going to have to do the 5 am wake up thing starting june 11th. This real world thing is killing me. I would love any advice as well! Hang in there girl!

  15. May 31, 2012 1:00 pm

During my internship, I used to love packing yogurt and cheese sticks for snacks (gotta love havin’ a shared refrigerator!). For packed lunches, I would make pb&js (love), hummus, peppers and feta on pita…the list goes on 🙂 If you’re in Chicago for your internship, you’ll have to check out the farmers market they have every thursday during the summer! I always loved the raspberry-cream cheese muffins from the Amish stand. such a delicious treat!

    • May 31, 2012 4:36 pm

Ah those muffins sound good, I wish farmers market vendors would start making gluten free stuff! And I love that market, I walked through it every week to get from the bus to my internship last summer!

  16. May 31, 2012 1:19 pm

I totally agree with number 1, friendships that are strong enough to stand the test of time and geography, those are the best 🙂

  17. May 31, 2012 2:18 pm

I am so boring about packed lunches – I brought the same thing almost every day! And when I was in a pinch and didn’t have time to make something, I’d bring a couple packets of Kashi oatmeal. I brought a lot of salads and the take-out containers from Noodles and Company are perfect for holding them!

I’m not really a fan of maps, but I am a fan of that pizza 😉

  19. May 31, 2012 6:36 pm

Haha so I WAS studying until I found your blog … now I’m reading all of your posts and drooling over the oat recipes you have. So yummy looking!

  20. May 31, 2012 7:29 pm

If you like Jodi Picoult I would strongly suggest Handle with Care. It was amazing – couldn’t put it down.

  21. June 1, 2012 2:26 am

I love Jodi Picoult! All her books are amazing! and I love the friendship picture, I’ve seen that on pinterest! My best friend and I are just like that, we unfortunately live 300 miles apart now and don’t get to see one another very much, but when we get to visit, it’s always exactly the same, like nothings changed and we were never apart! Love friends like that!!!!

That rock is so cool! I love classic cars! 🙂

  22. June 1, 2012 8:53 am

It’s tough to adjust to a working schedule but it will happen I promise! I used to shed a few tears every morning when my alarm clock went off at 6am, and now I’ve learned how to get enough sleep and even wake up at 5am to get a workout in. It’s a big adjustment that takes a lot of time so cheer up and stay positive!
