Thursday Thoughts!

May 17, 2012

Good morning everyone! You’re almost done with the week! Personally, I’m trying to slow time down! Each day passed means one day less of my vacation! I had a very busy and hectic day yesterday, and loved it! I ran 6 miles, took my mom to the golf, went to a coffee shop to read a little, ran some errands, had a loooong lunch with my grandparents (awful service and gluten issues…), ran more errands, tried to rest for 2 hours, and then went to Drag Queen Bingo!!! (more on that another day… just wanted to tease you).

But I love Thursday because it’s time for Thursday Thoughts! And I always have plenty…

1. My first week home I had Apple Pie Oats every single day for breakfast. On Mother’s Day when we had omelets, I had it for lunch. I am officially burnt out.

2. This quote really hit home for me. All this spring I’ve been worrying about where I want to live when I finish law school. What’s the perfect city? Where will I fit in the best, be the happiest? This quote reminds me that wherever I am I can make it home, make it the best place for me.

Make beautiful places :)

3. I love these wrap ideas I found on pinterest – they are great combinations that I could use to put in a wrap, or even make as a salad with quinoa or brown rice added! I think they’ll be great for brining lunch to my internship this summer.

summertime = lighter eating and that means lots of wraps for lunch! here are 20 Ideas for wraps! #fitfluential

4. I am PRAYING that Blend Retreat 2013 is at the end of May, NOT during my finals (like it was this year) and NOT the weekend of my law school graduation! I’m afraid the odds aren’t in my favor… But I so want to go!!!

5. I LOVE the Roasterie! It’s a coffee place I’ve mentioned a few times before when I’m in KC, but I love the atmosphere, they have ALMOND MILK so I can order any drink I want (aka not just tea…), and I just realized it’s only a mile walk from my house! I don’t even need to borrow someone’s car to go and read!

6. I totally forgot to mention that Girls Night Out at the Blue Bird Bistro was actually also a blogger meet up! One of the daughters in attendance was the lovely Bailey, who blogs over at Fit Philanthropist and who just got an awesome promotion!!! She kinda rocks. Oh and she met Tim Gunn. In an adorable dress. Go check it out.

7. Chelsey, I found the solution to our (okay my…) sushi-eating issues. Chopsticks that double as a fork and spoon. We know I need the help…

8. Has anyone bought Bob’s new book The Skinny Rules? I’m really tempted because I LOVE Bob and I’d love to see what he has to say! The only problem is books are sooooo expensive! I went to the bookstore yesterday and chose my book because it was under $10! Every other book I wanted (including Insurgent) was $17! I just couldn’t spend that on something I was going to finish in a day!

The Skinny Rules: The Simple, Nonnegotiable Principles for Getting to Thin

9. So, so very true. No one is perfect, but we all do the best we can!

I love this.. it was posted on FB somewhere

Do you buy many books? Do you have a favorite coffee place to read them?

Anyone else frustrated with eating sushi in public? It’s hard to bite it in half and eating it whole is too much!

I cannot use chopsticks for the life of me! My boyfriend has tried to teach me many times but I just can’t learn!

  2. May 17, 2012 7:52 am

    Well… I don’t eat my books! Haha 🙂
I went from buying books, to buying eBooks, and I finally gave in and got a library card. $12 for a whole year. I got my membership two weeks ago and have already read 4 books- its paid for itself!

haha I need to learn to proof read… and not write when i’m falling asleep! READ! And I have a library card but it’s actually really hard for me to get to in Chicago!

  3. May 17, 2012 8:04 am

I do the library all the time. I have an Kindle, but I don’t buy a book unless it’s a treat or highly recommended.

  4. May 17, 2012 8:16 am

I loooove sushi. Some places cut them small enough, but the big pieces are a pain. I try and swap books with my friends, but I do love buying them for my Kindle- so easy to travel with.

That apple pie oatmeal looks awesome! And Middlesex is next on my list. I hope it’s good!

  6. May 17, 2012 8:30 am

HAHAHA oh the woes of sushi… Those chop-forks look super awesome! I need to get some for my friend who’s actually Asian in ethnicity, but she’s probably the most American, Burberry-wearing, Northface-sporting person I know.

Thanks SO much for the plug 🙂 I checked into my blogger today and was very pleasantly surprised to see so many visitors! Yay for readers!

I quite enjoy the Roasterie as well! That’s my fav place to sit and read books, but usually I end up doing a fair amount of people watching as well. Current read: Bill Bryson’s “The Lost Continent.” An incredibly witty author, if you haven’t had the pleasure of reading his books before.

    Yogurtini/sushi soon!

  7. May 17, 2012 8:46 am

Haha those chopsticks are great! I’ve seen the chopsticks that are attached on one end so you don’t lose the grip and cross them over each other. Very helpful!

  8. May 17, 2012 8:58 am

I LOVE Bob so I am definitely going to check if that book is at the library.

And I am with you – I am so hoping I can go to BLEND next year! Hopefully it’s after finals!

  9. May 17, 2012 9:10 am

i did a “thursday thoughts” post today too! 🙂 mostly out of laziness though… mine doesn’t even have photos. haha.
i love those chopsticks! i have “issues” eating sushi with chopsticks too.

  10. May 17, 2012 10:39 am

Haha love those chop sticks! I could really use a pair; I’m a mess when I eat sushi. I have to bite it in half and then it falls apart everywhere!

  12. May 17, 2012 4:05 pm

My husband needs those chopsticks! perfect for a stocking stuffer this year! lol, already planning ahead.

I am going to try to go to Blend Retreat next year!

  13. May 17, 2012 4:24 pm

Yes, must go to Blend. Hope the dates do work with your schedule!
Love that beautiful quote! Can I have both? 😉

  14. May 17, 2012 5:10 pm

I love that quote!! And YES to the chopsticks. HAhaa.

P.s. I often go and read books at the bookstore and come back another time to finish ’em. It’s a great way to relax and ‘get lost’ in the world of books without paying a cent. I don’t necessarily feel bad because I will buy a book once in awhile–and I always try and buy a magazine or a drink.

LOVE the idea of almond milk everywhere 🙂

  15. May 17, 2012 8:28 pm

YESSSS!!! I need those chop sticks!!!

  16. May 17, 2012 8:42 pm

What do you think of Middlesex so far? I was considering that as my next read! I just finished Eugenides ‘The Marriage Plot’ (about a half hour ago actually 🙂 ) . It was pretty good so I’m considering Middlesex if it’s worthwhile??

  17. May 17, 2012 8:56 pm

Those sushi chopsticks are great! I don’t understand how people eat rice with normal chopsticks, I get like 1 grain at a time!

Your apple pie oatmeal looks great! I can’t wait to try!
There’s an appetizer I get at the Japanese restaurant we go to that I need to eat in pieces, because it’s too hard with chopsticks. Honestly, at home, I sometimes eat with my hands. My brother in law is Fillipino and eats rice with chopsticks no problem. It’s a bit intimidating…haha

  19. May 17, 2012 10:00 pm

I have a pretty serious addiction to buying books…especially on Amazon! I LOVE to read and I always prefer to own (new) books. Whenever I purchase a new book and add it to my bookshelf my heart jumps with joy just a bit 🙂

And Middlesex is a great book! I read it a few years ago and enjoyed it very much. Are you liking it so far?
