Changing Things Up

April 7, 2012

Hey everyone, I hope your week went well and that you’ve got a great weekend ahead of you! I had a great dinner last night with my brother, sister-in-law, cousin and my cousin’s finance! We went to an Italian restaurant in Lakeview called Mia Francesca and it was great! They actually have tons of locations all over the country. The restaurant was packed when we arrived, which means it had to be good!

It was great meeting my cousin’s fiancé and it was nice to see her, as well as my brother and sister-in-law, who I never see during the week. And guess what? They had gluten free pasta! It was fantastic! I rarely order pasta but I had to try it. It was a quinoa-based spaghetti noodle and I really liked it, even better than the rice pasta that I tried at home over Christmas.

So as I’ve mentioned a couple times, I’m participating in Janetha’s Adventurous April, so in that theme I decided to show all the things I’ve been changing up a little lately.

Recently I’ve been getting a venti iced classic green tea from Starbucks to help me survive my legal writing class. Thursday, however, I didn’t have time to run to Starbucks before class so I decided to grab a new coconut water flavor from the cafeteria.

New? Yes. Good? No. I should have known. I hate all flavored water. No matter how often I try to force myself to like any kind of flavored water, it just doesn’t happen.

Another thing? I’ve been changing up my desk in my apartment! I already showed you all Janky Desk, which has been working out pretty well actually, but I’ve also been using a high counter and a mini elliptical!

I don’t actually move the elliptical the whole time, sometimes I just stand there on it (it is hard to type and elliptical at the same time…) but standing is certainly better than sitting! My butt/back were in so much pain by the end of finals last semester that I think this will work out very well!

For another new thing, I got some clothes! Okay, so they’re from Forever 21 and they were on-sale items that I thought would work for my internship this summer… but still, they’re new! I got 2 cardigans, a belt and these adorable shoes!!! Aren’t they cute? I’m so glad I liked them when they came!

Oh yes… and the sports bra. I can’t place an order of any kind without including some sort of running gear… I wanted to see if their sports bras were any good! Well I’ll find out soon enough!

Finally, my last new thing is working out at home! My workout for Tina’s Best Body Bootcamp yesterday was a circuit workout. After looking over all the moves I realized all I needed was a stability ball and a set of dumbells, which I had at my apartment! I decided to go ahead and do the circuit at home, and it worked out perfectly! I also loved it because I didn’t have to fight over one of the two stability balls in the gym, and I could play my pandora in the background!

This circuit really got my heart pumping! I was surprised because the other circuit we did this week was fine, but not too difficult, this one had my heart rate up the entire time – I was breathing pretty heavy!

This picture is me on the floor once I finished. Whew! I needed to lay down… haha.

What new things are going on in your life?

Do you work at a desk? If so, what do you do to make it more comfortable?

Have you tried the chocolate coconut water?? That’s the only coconut water I like, it’s delicious!

I have tried to make myself like coconut water multiple times and I just don’t! I’m over it now haha 🙂 Something new for me are your egg white oats that I just made this morning!! I don’t think I let my egg whites get fluffy enough though because it’s kind of like soupy…it doesn’t look as fluffy as yours haha. I still like the volume though!

Hahaha mine have never been soupy, so yes, you probably didn’t whip the egg whites enough, they need to be able to peak. I do the highest speed on my mixer for 3 minutes. Also be sure you added the xantham gum or corn starch! I’ve made that mistake…

      • April 7, 2012 7:33 pm

Yep…it was that I wasn’t using a high enough speed! I had it at a medium-ish speed because I wasn’t really sure/wasn’t thinking clearly because it was too early on a Saturday haha! I will definitely be trying them again soon, they really weren’t as much trouble as I’d expected!

I’m glad they weren’t too difficult! I always get nervous sharing recipes… haha I’m afraid they won’t work for people!

I used to live by the Francescas in Litte Italy, their food is soo good!

I love the idea of using a mini elliptical while you do homework, I don’t like sitting for too long.

love your new clothes! super cute. i usually just sit on my couch at home, but i do have a big ol’ desk at work. i sit on a stability ball chair that makes me sit up straight and use my core more. i don’t know if i’d say it’s necessarily more comfortable, but i know it’s much better for me than slouching in a comfy chair!

I have a stability ball too, but I’ll find myself leaning up against my desk when I sit on it… Perhaps I should focus on my form more!

I’ll be working at a desk starting Monday! I’m excited to see how it is, as I’ve only ever had jobs where I don’t have a desk, and mostly walk around. My poor feet will be happy about it 🙂

The mini elliptical looks terrific, I would live that! I finally pumped up my exercise ball do I can sit on it instead of my desk chair at work. Sitting sedentary at my desk all day is starting to drive me nuts!

  7. April 7, 2012 5:14 pm

I’m usually not a desk sitter but if I do sit at a desk, the chair has to be really comfy!

  8. April 7, 2012 5:24 pm

I love those new shoes! And I’m really not a desk sitter either…usually I move my laptop over to the couch.

    • April 8, 2012 9:29 am

my problem is I don’t have a couch, so if I sit on my bed I have a tendency to drift off…

  9. April 7, 2012 10:39 pm

    Love those shoes Katie!

  10. April 9, 2012 4:54 pm

    Those shoes are stinkin’ cute!

Sadly, I haven’t been trying anything new in my life lately… I should do that – any suggestions?

I sit ALL. THE. TIME. at my desk at work. So to try to fix that awful problem I get up for even the slightest thing and walk around to get it. And I’m working on rigging my desk to accommodate for some standing time – a little hard without a portable laptop, but we’ll see.

Ahh I hated sitting at my job last summer! For a while I would tilt my screen upward and just stand and lean to use the keyboard, but that hurt my back. I’d go to the bathroom constantly and do random spurts of squats or pushups on the counter! I am not a desk person…
