Racing Bug and WIAW

April 4, 2012

Hey everyone!!! It’s Wednesday, which of course means another installment of What I Ate Wednesday! However, before we get to that, I have much more exciting news:

And they are BEAUTIFUL. Not. I actually could not stop laughing at my pictures, I looked like I wanted to cry in all of them!!! I swear I smiled at a couple cameras! Anyway, I thought I was hilarious and sent all of them to my family, in order, with captions of what I was thinking. They were all from the last 2 miles and looked basically like this:

race 3

I really did want to die, as you may have read on my race recap. However, I crossed the finish line, was handed water and a medal, and somehow immediately forgot how rough it was:

race 5

I forgot so quickly, actually, that I accepted a free registration to a 10 miler on April 28th! CARA’s Lakefront 10 Miler! One of my amazing Chicago-area readers, Lauren, had a free entry and couldn’t use it, so she passed it on to me! Thank you Lauren!

Haha, I have caught the racing bug! And I like the medals…  didn’t win too many of those during my oh so athletic youth.

So moving on to What I Ate Wednesday! These are all of my eats from Tuesday, a day that I spend most of my time at home since I only have one class! If you are new to WIAW, head over to Peas and Crayons to see what it’s all about, and all the other blogs participating!

Peas and Crayons

For breakfast I couldn’t decided between oats or yogurt, so I had both! I just made some plain oats with chia seeds, cinnamon, and some PB mixed in, served with a Peach Chobani on the side! Peach is definitely my new favorite flavor, how did I not try this before?!? P.S. this is my breakfast when I was almost done… and realized I’d forgotten to take a picture.

For lunch, I realized I’d had a spaghetti squash sitting in my kitchen for way too long. I baked it (cut it in half, put it face down and baked for 40 min at 400 degrees) and then on top added some zucchini and chickpeas sautéed in olive oil, some marinara sauce and a bit of cheese. Stuck it in the microwave for 45 seconds to melt the cheese!

I was craving something sweet after lunch, so I made up a bowl of fresh cut fruit! Strawberries, mangos and blueberries. And there may or may not have been a few dips in the PB jar too… But come on, I needed to have a late celebration of National PB&J day!

Later in the afternoon I had some Erewhon Gluten Free Brown Rice Cereal with blueberries, and again with some PB… Seriously, this is becoming an issue. I need to hide the jar from myself. No picture, but here’s the box! I am loving this cereal because it makes the crackling noise just like rice crispy treats! And the ingredients? Organic Brown Rice, Organic Brown Rice Syrup, and Sea Salt. Winning.

After snack time, I headed off to the gym to complete the first workout in Phase 3 of Tina’s Best Body Boot camp! I’m excited to get back into the workouts since I had to modify them considerably last week for tapering.

This phase includes “push and pull” exercises, meaning that one day we do all exercises that work our push muscles and then another day we do exercises that work our pull muscles! Tuesday’s workout was Push Strength Drop Sets, which meant that for each set I decreased reps and increased weights. I had never done this before so it was fun to try something new and challenging! Although it did make it a little more difficult at my gym, since I had to keep going back and finding new weights, which made it take a bit longer.

When I got home, I wasn’t too hungry (too much PB and cereal…) but after a bit I roasted some spaghetti squash (I thought it would be like hashbrowns… it wasn’t), some broccoli slaw and some chickpeas, served with ketchup of course! And plain greek yogurt mixed with raspeberry preserves on the side.

After dinner I made some more of the same yogurt mix and at it with a sliced apple. I also had a couple hershey dark chocolate kisses! So good!

My friend, Maddie, said her mom sent her some Easter Almond M&Ms and now I literally cannot stop thinking about them! I’ve decided Easter candy is more enticing because of the pretty pastel colors… so innocent. Haha just throwing that in there. Dessert on my mind!

What’s your favorite holiday for candy?

Have you ever gotten back really amusing photos from an event/race?

The photos from my half were pretty scary. Why did the photographer decide it was a good idea to sit at mile 11 and take photos?! I look like I’m going to die! haha

Haha, exactly! And I know my photo was taken earlier on in the race but those photos don’t seem to exist anywhere!

your lunch spaghetti squash bowl looks so yummy!

my favorite easter candy would have to be a fancy see’s egg, and robin eggs 🙂

I’d have to agree that Easter is my favorite time for candy. I love the pastel colors and pretty wrappings. Peanut Butter M&Ms are my favorite although I saw they now make coconut M&Ms. I’m a little hesitant to try them for fear I will fall in love and eat the whole bag in one sitting.

Good job on the race!! 😀 That lunch sounds delicious. I need to try making spaghetti squash…I’ve heard it’s delicious!

  6. April 4, 2012 9:21 am

I NEVER look good in race photos, even if I try to smile it never looks genuine. I think I’ve purchased like one race photo ever and it was from my first marathon and shows my finishing time. Oh well.

Bummer that the spaghetti squash didn’t turn into hashbrowns that would have been awesome 😛

    • April 4, 2012 10:48 am

Haha I don’t know if I’ll be buying any of these race photos… and serious bummer on my spaghetti squash. I think I may attempt a potato-cake type situation next…

  7. April 4, 2012 9:34 am

  8. April 4, 2012 9:59 am

Love your photos, you look great! I have to say I’m looking forward to a dark chocolate lindt Easter bunny this year!

  9. April 4, 2012 11:01 am

I like your photos… you do look a bit fatigued there but you are racing and that is totes fine to look like that! When people are smiling and such.. well not as genuine if you ask me 🙂 I am good at the dying look myself haha
Almond M&Ms, how in the heck did I not know those existed?!

You’re welcome! Can’t wait to hear about the race. I really enjoy the 10 mile distance.

My photos from Chi Town weren’t that great or that terrible, but my fiance’s were hilarious from the 10k.

  11. April 4, 2012 11:17 am

You look pretty good after running 13.1 miles! A lot better than I ever look after 5 😀 I’ve been craving spaghetti squash lately but I’m just too lazy to do the actual cooking it part…I need to suck it up and do it because your lunch looks great!

    • April 4, 2012 11:20 am

It’s hard to get yourself started, but honestly it takes zero effort to make spaghetti squash. you can even do it in the microwave!

      • April 4, 2012 11:33 am

I just hate the cutting it in half part..I’m always afraid I’m going to cut my arm off! But I got a set of knives for Christmas so maybe it’ll be easier now haha 🙂 Also, I’m pretty sure I’m the only person under the age of 40 to ever receive knives for Christmas.

        • April 4, 2012 3:32 pm

Haha that’s a good gift! I got my brother’s old knives when he got married, since they registered for new ones!

  12. April 4, 2012 12:39 pm

peach chobani is one of my favorite flavors!! so good!

  13. April 4, 2012 1:46 pm

Plain greek yogurt and raspberry preserves? I like this idea!! Have you tried the passion fruit greek yogurt? SO GOOD!

    • April 4, 2012 3:33 pm

I’m hesitant to try it since I don’t like pomegranate because of the seeds and I heard it also has seeds!

  14. April 4, 2012 2:49 pm

Those are some delicious food items! For me my favourite holiday for candy is Christmas, because even though there aren’t as many delicious treats like Easter, there’s different kinds that just make me nostalgic. 🙂

  15. April 4, 2012 7:51 pm

That photo looks pretty good! My race photos always look like I’m leisurely walking and my boyfriend always makes fun of me for it 🙂 I guess I need to put on a grimace next time and make it looks like I’m working really hard!

  16. April 5, 2012 6:38 am

I have a love affair with the Reese’s easter eggs. They’re so flipping good! Can’t wait to have one this weekend. 🙂

  17. April 5, 2012 11:27 am

Your lunch was my exactly (and only) WIAW dinner entry!

  18. April 6, 2012 1:46 am

Hehe race photos are fun. I swear the photographers only snap your pain face, and not when you’re smiling at them hahaha…
