Table Rock

January 6, 2012

Happy Friday everyone! I’m sure you all are excited that it’s Friday, whereas I can barely remember what day of the week it is! I’ve been all over the place, from Kansas City to North Carolina, then to South Carolina, and now I’m in Colorado Springs!

With all this craziness, I realized that I completely forgot to tell you all about the amazing hike I went on with Amy Lee and her mom while I was still in North Carolina!

On our last day in NC, we decided to go on a hike. Since Amy Lee lives so close to the mountains, there were plenty of options. She decided that table rock would be a great hike, since you can see the rock formation at the top of a peak from just about anywhere in her town!

To get to the hike, however, we had to drive quite a bit of the way up the mountain, and spent quite a long time on a winding dirt road! Kudos to Amy Lee’s mom for driving up that road, and in a down pour! (don’t worry, it stopped raining when we got there! very lucky!)

The hike was fun, but a bit rough in places for me! I’m not used to hiking up rock trails with tons of leaves, but Amy Lee was flying! It was actually the down hill that got me the most, especially since it was so slippery after raining!

Luckily, we made it to the top safely! However, the top itself was not so safe! It was horribly windy and I was almost afraid I’d be blown right off at some points!

We stopped at several points along the trail, and some of the views were just spectacular! You could see for miles and miles!

I always read people’s blogs from the East coast who go hiking, and I’m so jealous! Now I finally got to have a hiking adventure of my own! Too bad Illinois won’t be popping up mountains anytime soon! Guess that means I’ll be needed to find my way to the mountains after law school!

We made it back down safely, no falling! I had such a great time on this hike, it was the perfect way to end our trip!

P.S. Please not that I look so puffy because I was wearing a long sleeve shirt, a sweatshirt, and then my coat on top… It was quite chilly.

Do you like to hike? Do you live near somewhere where you can hike?

What is the ideal type of place you’d like to live? City, country, flat, beach, mountains, lake?

I love Chicago but I miss living in the suburbs (or just a non-city area). I love being outside and running on trails and thats kind of hard to find in the city 🙂

I’m fortunate enough to live in a state that is great for hiking: West Virginia. Although I love WV, I’d like to live elsewhere for a while to see what other regions are like. If I had to pick, I’d go with the New England area.

I’ve been fortunate enough to live in different areas, it’s great just to try it out for a bit. And I’ve never been to WV but my little brother has and loved it!

WOW what a beautiful view! We have some great hiking spots in AZ but I don’t get to do it as much as I would like to!

I love Table Rock! Last Thanksgiving I actually camped with my family there and we hiked to the summit…only in South Carolina. I didn’t realize I was so close to NC. 😀
The hike on the SC side was close to 7 miles round trip…so much fun!

I’ve actually done some great hikes in Michigan, up in Glen Arbor! Not super high, but gorgeous!

i LOVE to hike where it’s green, lush, and hilly. i used to not like hiking as much when i lived in arizona because it was brown, brown, and more brown, and cactus galore! thank goodness it’s beautiful and green here in northern utah – i love hiking here.

I LOVE hiking! And trail running. Whenever I go to the mountains, I want to live in the mountains. When I go to the city, I want to live in the city. When I go to the ocean, I want to live in the ocean. I usually want to live somewhere warm when it’s snowing but then I would miss fall and spring. So you can imagine how happy I was when I went to Vancouver…a city. On the Pacific Ocean. Where the winters are mild. And the mountains are close. BLISS! So I applied to grad school there…and now I’m waiting to here if I get to go!

Your pictures are gorgeous! I’ve only been to colorado springs once forever ago but we had a ton of fun. I love hiking especially in the fall and in the spring.
